Travel Destinations: The Neuschwanstein Castle

by - 9:23:00 du.

The fairy tale castle from Walt Disney exists! It's located in Hohenschwangau which is a small village in South-Germany. It is very close to the Austrian and German border and approximately it is 2 hours drive by car from Munich. We've organised a day-trip to the castle, when we've visited my brother-in-law and his girlfriend. The Neuschwanstein Castle is a great destination all year around not only in spring!

What do you have to know about the Neuschwantstein Castle?
The palace was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria and it was built in the 19th century. His childhood's dreams and his honour of Richard Wagner's music inspired the building. This tourist attraction is a medieval castle and a 19th century technological example in the same time. It is stunning! :)

As I've already mentioned before the palace lies above Hohenschwangau. It could be reached on a curly foot path from the small village. This road is about 1,5 km uphill. There is an option to go up by horse-down carriage, if you didn't feel fit enough. We've decided to walk up and it took around an hour in my pregnant condition. :) It is important to remember your time slot for the guided tour! If you miss it, you will loose the opportunity to take a walk inside the castle. Also, photographing and filming are not allowed in the building!
If you have more spare time before the guided tour as we did, head to the Marie's Bridge! If your appointment is sooner than visit the bridge after that. The view is spectacular from there! You can take the best pictures from the bridge about the castle. Yet, I have to worn you; the bridge is very narrow and it starts to resonate easily under the crowds' steps.

Nowdays the Neuschwanstein Castle is a very popular destination and one of the most visited German tourist attractions. So better to expect lots of visitors around! The palace inspired millions of people. Also, two of the Walt Disney's castles were modeled from this palace. Do you know which two? The castle of Cinderella and the palace of Sleeping Beauty.

I hope you liked my article about the Neuschwanstein Castle. And you will add the place to your travel bucket list! You can find all the important information on the website of the castle. E.g. opening hours, entry fees, how to get there, etc... Click here for its website!
Good to know, if you want to take a walk around the castle, you don't have to buy a ticket.

We've visited the place in March when the trees were still nacked and it was early spring. I wish, I could go back either in autumn; when the leaves have magical colours or in winter, when the snow coat the nature! Have you already visited the Neuschwanstein Castle? If not, is it on your travel bucket list?

Mimi

II. :)

Végül is Németország egyik leglátogatottabb idegenforgalmi látványosságáról beszélünk.

Minden fontos információt megtalálhattok a naprakészen tartott weboldalon: nyitvatartás, jegyárak, stb...  A kastély weboldalához kattintsatok ide!

Szeretettel,
Mimi
