I would like to write to you about our trip to Oxford. Omg, that seems so far now! We organised a short holiday to Oxford in December just between Christmas and New Years Eve. We have spent 2 days in there and it was such a lovely time! :)
What is the first thing which comes into your mind when you hear the name of it? Probably you will associate with the famous university. When I told to my dad where we travel his first funny question was: 'Are you going to join to the University?' :) Well, we did but we just walked around and wondered how beautiful the city is! We had only one and half day in Oxford therefore our schedule wasn't overbooked. We got out the bed after we woke up without alarm, we had a nice and chilled breakfast and we went into the central by bus because our accommodation was around ten minutes far from there.

Az oxfordi kirándulásunkról szeretnék írni nektek, ami még tavaly decemberben volt! Visszagondolva is, nemhogy leírva nagyon távolinak tűnik már! Két napot töltöttünk ott, és nagyon jól éreztük magunkat, belopta a szívünkbe magát a település. :) 
Oxford, egyetemváros. Gyanítom, hogy mindenkinek ez ugrik be elsőként a városról. Amikor édesapámnak is meséltem, hogy hová utazunk, neki is az első kérdése az volt viccesen, hogy: "Megyünk az egyetemre?" :) Nos, mentünk de csak körbesétálni és gyönyörködni az épületekben. Nagyjából másfél napunk volt a városra, ezért nem is alakítottunk ki zsúfolt menetrendet. Kényelmesen felkeltünk, megreggeliztünk, majd busszal egy tíz perc alatt be is értünk a központba, hogy felfedezőútra induljunk. 

We started our tour at the Oxford Castle. Did you know that the city has been established before the Norman conquest? So it could mean that the city is over 900 years old and therefore the reason of building the castle was to set William The Conqueror's power. This time we decided that we didn't visit the castle from inside however there is a small hill next to the fort and we climbed that. The view from there was OK however I judged too early. I didn't really liked the castle and its area and I didn't find the city charming from the hill too.
Later on our way into the central my opinion changed. The city and the shopping quarter are lovely and I felt myself in a Harry Potter movie around the University! :) There is no wonder because they shot some part of the movie in Oxford around the buildings of the university. Not at least, the great hall in the Christ Church Collage was the Hogwart's Great Hall too! It's unbelievable that it looks absolutely the same in the reality like in the movies. There are three long dining tables with chairs around them and there are offering tables on the side of the room. The Great Hall is stunning with its decoration: there is wooden panelling and famous English people's portraits hang on the wall. In the centre of the room there is one of the most well-known person's portrait, Henry VIII King of England. He is the founder of the Christ Church Collage. Certainly the collage is so popular that we had to wait in front of the Great Hall too and we could walk only in a single file in the room. In this way we had time to take pictures and enjoy the stunning view however I wouldn't mind to spend a bit longer time here to wonder around! :)   

Az Oxfordi várnál kezdtünk ismerkedni a településsel és a múltjával. Tudtátok, hogy a település már a normann hódítás előtt is létezett? Azaz 1066 előtt alapíthatták? Az erődöt pedig pont azért kezdték el építeni, hogy megerősítsék Hódító Vilmos királyi hatalmát. Ez alkalommal úgy döntöttünk, hogy nem mélyedünk el a részletekben, ezért csak a vár melletti dombra másztunk fel, ahonnan egész szép kilátás nyílt Oxfordra. Elkövettem azt a hibát, hogy elhamarkodottan ítéltem: a vár és környéke nem igazán tetszett, és a dombról való kilátás sem győzött meg a város szépségéről.
Azonban ahogy egyre beljebb sétáltunk, és elértük a belváros régebbi épületeit és az egyetemi részt, úgy változott meg a véleményem. A központ és a bevásárlóutca hangulatos, az egyetem körül pedig úgy éreztem magam, mintha egy Harry Potter filmbe csöppentem volna! :) Ami nem is csoda, hiszen a filmeknek több részét is itt forgatták. Sőt, a Christ Church College szolgált a Roxforti iskola nagytermének a helyszínéül. Lenyűgöző, hogy a valóságban is ugyan olyan, mint a filmekben. Három hosszú asztal, székekkel körülvéve és kínálóasztal a falak mentén. Fa lambériával és híres angol történelmi személyek portré festményeivel van díszítve a terem. Leghátul a középső falon messziről is felismerhető egy személy: VIII. Henrik angol uralkodó található rajta. A megtisztelő helynek oka van: ő alapította a Christ Church College-ot 1546-ban. Természetesen olyan nagy az érdeklődés, hogy libasorban haladtunk mi is végig a termen, meghatározott ütemben. Volt idő elkészíteni a kötelező fényképeket, de nem bántam volna, ha kicsit több idő jutott volna a bámészkodásra. :)


It is truly amazing that those old buildings are still in use for the activity of the university and the students live their life inside these. It is crystal clear that the University was my favourite and I could spend more time easily around just for enjoy its atmosphere. I'm pretty sure that there are still lot's of places wait to explore but luckily we found the Bridge of Sights in Oxford. Yes, you read it correctly because the bridge called originally Hertford Bridge became famous as the 'Bridge of Sights' too. It is similar to the Venetian one in Italy but this joints two buildings of the university. It is easy to find the Radcliffe Camera as well. It is owned by the Oxford University and now days there is a library inside.

Amúgy elképesztő, hogy ezek a régi épületek a mai napig az egyetemi oktatás helyszínéül szolgálnak és a diákok itt élik a mindennapjaikat. Valóban, az egyetemi rész volt a kedvencem, még el tudtam volna tölteni több órát is élvezve a városrész hangulatát. Csak sejtéseim vannak, hogy még jó sok hely felfedezésre vár, de az oxfordi Sóhajok hídját szerencsére megtaláltuk. :) Bizony, mert az eredetileg Hertford Bridge névre keresztelt híd is Sóhajok hídjaként vált ismertté a turisták körében. Természetesen van hasonlóság is az olaszországi Velencében megépített híddal, de itt két egyetemi épületet köt össze. Ha kicsit tovább sétálunk, biztosan belebotlunk a Radcliffe Camera-ba, ami az Oxfordi egyetem tulajdona és könyvtárként működik. 


Not least, but if you are around in Oxford, do not miss the Blenheim Castle! It is truly amazing place and Sir Winston Churchill was born here in 1874. It has a very special atmosphere and when we were there the Christmas decoration was still on. I was absolutely amazed by the lovely details. Unfortunately we couldn't spend to much time at the Blenheim Castle because we arrived late. Therefore one day I wish to go back to enjoy its beautiful park and garden too!

Amit semmiképpen se hagyjatok ki, ha Oxford és környékén jártok, az a Blenheim Kastély! Lenyűgöző hely, és nem mellesleg Sir Winston Churchill szülőhelye, aki 1874-ben itt látta meg a napvilágot a kastély falai között. Nagyon különleges az atmoszférája, és amikor ott voltunk, még fent voltak a karácsonyi díszek. Engem teljesen elvarázsoltak az apró részletek, és nagyon sajnáltam, hogy nem tudunk több időt tölteni ebben a különleges épület együttesben... Ezért egy nap nagyon jó lenne visszamenni, amikor már a kastély kertjében és parkjában is lehet sétálgatni!
